Season Wrap-Up

January 4, 2015

Season Report Posted: October 28, 2008 01:04

The ULM Warhawks finished up a fantastic season with a bowl win in the Outback Bowl, but couldn't have made it without such a great regular season. The War Hawks dominated early with a 5-1 start, winning against teams like UAB, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Lafeyette, and Auburn and only one loss against South Carolina. Then heading into the bulk of their schedule Monroe managed to stay tough. With a dominating win against FCS Midwest followed by a tough loss to Ole Miss, the War Hawks were left at 6-2. The War Hawks managed to get by Alabama but were knocked off by #9 Florida and sent to 7-3. After a win against Georgia, the War Hawks were expecting a tough game from the #4 Tennessee Volunteers and got one. Surprisingly enough the War Hawks kept even with the Vol's and scored a game winning touchdown from Steve Davis to Charlie Gibson for the win. The Hawks then were set to play in the Outback Bowl against #12 OSU. The War Hawks pulled off another gamewinning victory from the foot of Chaz Bell to win the Outback Bowl. The War Hawks finished at 10-3 and look to play even better in 2015.

The ULM Warhawks entered this season with high hopes of becoming a force in the SEC East. The Hawks started with back to back wins off of game-winning field goals against the UAB Blazers and the Kentucky Wildcats. Sophomore QB Steve Davis then led Monroe to an upset win over the Texas A&M Aggies. The War Hawks then entered the bulk of their schedule facing the South Carolina gamecocks where they lost 21-9 at home. The now 3-1 War Hawks faced the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in their annual rivalry game. The War Hawks came out on top with a thrilling 33-27 win in OT to move to 4-1. Their final game of the first half of the season was against SEC opponent Auburn. The War Hawks played great in order to get to Overtime and kick the game winner. The War Hawks next face the I-AA Midwest Dragons at home and look to dominte throughout the rest of their season.
