Season Wrap-Up

January 8, 2020

Season Report Posted: December 02, 2008 02:02

For the 4th time in 5 years the ULM Warhawks have won the SEC title and for the 3rd time in school history, all in the span of 5 years, the Warhawks have won the BCS National Title. Led by Senior QB Adam Williams and by Senior CB James London, the Warhawks wrecked every team they played this season. During the regular season, the Hawks lowest margin of victory was 12 which came in a win against Kentucky. The 2nd half of the season stared after a bye week and against Ole Miss. Heisman contender Henry Kane led the team to a strong 24-10 conference win. Currently standing at #4 in the nation the Warhawks faced an improved Alabama team. The Crimson Tide looked tough to start but the Warhawks pulled away late in the game to win 35-21. The only tough part of their schedule came now as the Warhawks played #21 Florida, then #19 Georgia, and then a very solid Tennessee team. ULM beat Florida 28-14, Georgia 23-3, and Tennessee 31-13, proving they are national title contenders. The Warhawks finished off with the regular season with a 42-0 blank over Vanderbilt. The same week the Ohio Bobcats played the #2 Texas Longhorns. The Bobcats surprised by taking the Longhorns into overtime and kicking the game winning field goal to knock off the #2 team in the nation and give the Warhawks front seats to a championship berth. The only obstacle in their way was a good #4 LSU team that they had to play for the SEC title, winner gets to the championships. Early on the Tigers seemed to have it but thanks to a pick 6 from all-american James London the Warhawks found the strength to pull ahead and away from LSU and win their 4th SEC title in 5 years 24-7, also earning themselves a spot to play Michigan for the National title. The #2 Warhawks took on a #1 Michigan team on the 8th day of the year 2020. The Warhawks fell behind early 14-7, but on a late drive where Adam Williams hooked up with Doak Walker Award winner Henry Kane for the tying touchdown things got interesting. With only 20 seconds Michigan decided they would drive into ULM territoy and try to win it. Well that decision looked awful when on their first play of the drive Marcus Matthews picked off a pass and went all the way for the game winning touchdown to give the Warhawks the title 21-14. James London broke Trevor Green's record for most interceptions in a season with 11 picks. London also broke John Diggs' record of most interceptions in a career with 23 picks. London was named Chuck Bednarik Award and Jim Thorpe Award Winner and will endure a great career in the NFL. Craig Moore will take over for the Warhawks at QB next year with the departure of Adam Williams as ULM will once again celebrate another national title and hope to do it all again next year.

UL-Monroe is off to its greatest start in school history. Being preranked at #7 the Warhawks are in the championship hunt for sure. They started out with a game against FCS Midwest and dominated 70-0. Henry Kane set a school record with 6 rushing touchdowns in the game. The Warhawks then went on to dominate Kentucky 21-9 and Troy 27-14. The Warhawks then faced their first real challenge of the year in the South Carolina Gamecocks, or so the experts thought. The Warhawks smacked the Gamecocks 27-10 to prove that they are worthy of being a top tier team. The Warhawks then continued to win, showing their skills against rival ULL and conference opponent Auburn. The Warhawks currently stand at #4 in the nation and #1 in the SEC. They play Ole Miss at home followed by Alabama in the next two weeks. Henry Kane will keep his Heisman hopes alive by running up and down the field on the opponenets defense. The Warhawks look to wrap up a 4th conference title and a 3rd national title this season.
