Season Wrap-Up

January 8, 2017

Season Report Posted: November 15, 2008 01:24

After a surprisingly poor start from the ULM War hawks, the team was set to pull it together for their tougher second half of the year. After a bye week the #21 War hawks were set to play the #23 LSU Tigers. The game was a close one but was won by the Hawks on the final drive to move the War hawks to 5-2. The following game was against the #12 Florida Gators and was essentially make or break for the War hawks conference championship hopes. Another close game came down to the wire and was won by a huge touchdown pass from all-star QB Steve Davis to Scott Scott to seal the upset for the War hawks and move them to #17 heading into an easy game against the Kentucky Wildcats. After stomping Kentucky 35-23, the ULM War hawks we're playing the Tennessee Volunteers, a game that would decide who represents the SEC East in the conference championship game. The War hawks were once again locked in a tight game and in the 4th quarter Steve Davis hit Antone Lloyd for the game-winning touchdown, clinching an SEC championship game berth for the Hawks. The War hawks then finished with two easy games against Duke and UConn and we're at 10-2, ready to take on Auburn for the SEC title. The War hawks seemed to have won the SEC from the start of the game as they jumped off to a quick 14-0 lead and soon won 24-14. The 2016 SEC champs we're waiting on news as to what bowl they were to play in. The 2016 Sugar Bowl was a matchup between the #12 UL-Monroe Warhawks and the #4 Penn State Nitany Lions. Unfortunately the final game of the year was not one to be proud of as Steve Davis threw 4 interceptions and no touchdowns in his final game with the team and as the team went on to lose 28-6. The War hawks will move on from their first bowl loss under coach Charlie Weatherbie and will say goodbye to Steve Davis, who will have his #19 retired by the team. ULM comes away from this season at 11-3 with many crazy stories to tell as well as an SEC Championship banner to hang.

Mid-Season Report

Season Report Posted: November 12, 2008 22:39

Coming off their first national title, the ULM Warhawks are looking to have another great season. The year started out with 2 solid wins against UNLV and Ole Miss, but upset came when the #9 Warhawks we're shot down by the #25 South Carolina Gamecocks, dropping ULM down to #17. The Warhawks rebounded with a strong win over SEC opponent Mississippi State and then headed into an easy game against Louisville. The Louisville game started out evenly and stayed even all the way until the 2nd overtime period where Steve Davis threw a crucial interception that ended the game and sealed the upset for Louisville. This devastating loss dropped the Warhawks to #24 and bowl game hopes looked bleak. Meanwhile, conference rival Georgia watched and got all the more anxious to beat up on this seemingly bad ULM team. Things didn't exactly go as Georgia expected as the #24 Warhawks stomped the #4 Bulldogs 35-7 and moved to #22 heading into the bye week. This season is crazier than ever and should end up with an exciting finish for the Warhawks.
