Season Wrap-Up

January 8, 2019

Season Report Posted: November 26, 2008 23:22

The UL-Monroe Warhawks have finished one of their top 4 seasons in the last 11 years under coach Charlie Weatherbie. The Warhawks went into the second half of their season with an easy game against Alabama that they won 14-7. The following game was the biggest game of the season, an SEC battle between the #5 Warhawks and the #12 Florida Gators. The game stayed close but in the end the Gators had the extra push to knock off the Warhawks and successfully eliminate them from SEC title contention. The now 7-1 Warhawks then went into Kentucky with a bad taste and stomped the Wildcats 21-7. The next game was a true test for the #12 Warhawks as they looked to upset the #6 West Virginia Mountaineers. The Mountaineers went up by 7 and we're running the ball and running out the clock. A holding penalty pushed them back and they we're forced to kick a field goal to go up by 10. On the ensuing kickoff, Henry Kane went 95 yards for the touchdown and to keep Monroe in it. After a poor drive attempt by the Mountaineers, they were forced to punt the ball away with under a minute left. The Warhawks slowly drove down and with one shot left, Junior QB Adam Williams lofted one up for Antone Lloyd to grab. Lloyd came down with the ball with no time left to give the Hawks the win 28-27. The next game was the final conference game of the season against the #20 Tennessee Volunteers and the Warhawks won 17-13. After a thrashing of USF the Warhawks we're then set to play in the Rose Bowl against the #3 San Diego State Aztecs. The Warhawks proved the BCS Poll incredibly wrong by completely destroying the Aztecs 26-7 and finishing the season at #5. Captains Scott Scott and George White will both graduate as well as Brandon Davis, A.J. Parker, Joe Taylor, and Marshall Willis. Those are tough spots to fill and the Rose Bowl Champs will look to continue their perrenial success in the 2019 season.

Mid-Season Report

Season Report Posted: November 25, 2008 16:11

The ULM Warhawks have started out stronger than ever with Junior QB Adam Williams at the helm. The War hawks started out with a torching of Arkansas and then went into a rivalry game at UL-Lafayette. The game proved that the Warhawks had to make some kind of change as they went into triple overtime and finally defeated the Ragin' Cajuns by a 2 point conversion. The needed change was at runningback. SO(RS) back Ricky Sykes was benched in favor of FR(RS) runningback Henry Kane. Kane's speed was what made him so compelling and in the next 3 game he torched the defenses of Cincinnati, Ole Miss, and Georgia all behind enemy lines. The final game of the first half would be against the pesky South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks came ready to play keeping the game tied at 14 going into halftime but the Hawks rallied and pulled away to win 28-14. The Warhawks look to pursue another national title and look like they could do so.
