One for the Ages: NSU survives 9 overtimes agaisnt Irish
The game didn't want to end, and neither did the fans of college football. But when the dust settled at Ab-Linc Stadium, NSU survived one of the most wild games in college football history, defeating Notre Dame 89-87 in nine overtimes.
Notre Dame rallied with three fourth quarter touchdowns, but that is when the fun just got started. In all, the Prairie Dogs and the Irish played nine overtimes, ending when Martin barely knocked the ball away on the Irish's ninth overtime two-point conversion to seal the amazing win.
The Irish and Prairie Dogs matched each other for the first eight extra periods but Wood scored the go-ahead touchdown in the ninth overtime and added the two-point conversion on a sweep to the right side. Notre Dame scored in three plays and threatened to force yet another overtime period. NDQB#1 rolled right and saw a wide open NDWR#84 in the back of the end zone. But the pass didn't have enough loft and allowed Martin to streak over and leap to bat the ball away to preserve the win.
